Vape Tanks: The Refillable Core of Any Mod Setup
A vape tank is the reservoir that holds your e-liquid, houses the coil, and controls how air moves through the device. Screw it onto a box mod and you have a setup you refill for pennies instead of replacing every week — the opposite economics of a disposable, and the reason experienced vapers keep coming back to tanks.
Sub-ohm tanks run low-resistance mesh coils at higher wattage for dense vapor and pronounced flavor, which is why they pair with freebase e-liquid at 3mg or 6mg rather than nic salts. Everything here ships from our US warehouse.
Tanks & Replacement Glass In Stock
- Vaporesso iTANK T — a top-fill sub-ohm tank with adjustable bottom airflow and a leak-resistant design. Runs the GTi coil family, which covers everything from tight restricted lung draws to wide-open cloud chasing. The most versatile single tank we stock.
- GeekVape Zeus Nano Bubble Glass 3.5ml — expands the Zeus Nano’s capacity so you refill less often.
- GeekVape Zeus Replacement Bubble Glass — fits the Zeus Dual, Zeus X, and Zeus Sub-Ohm. Cracked glass is the single most common tank failure, and this is a $6 fix instead of a $30 replacement. More at our GeekVape page.
- Uwell Crown 5 Replacement Bubble Glass — same idea for the Crown 5. See the full Uwell range.
Keep a spare glass on hand. Tanks get dropped, and a hairline crack turns into a leak on your next fill.
Matching Coils to Your Tank
A tank is only as good as the coil inside it, and coils are not interchangeable across brands. Match the series to your hardware:
- Vaporesso GTi mesh coils — for the iTANK T and other GTi-compatible tanks.
- GeekVape Z (Zeus) mesh coils — for the Zeus tank family.
- SMOK TFV18 coils — for the TFV18. See more from SMOK.
- Vaporesso GTX-4 dual mesh and GeekVape P Series — for compatible tanks and larger pod devices.
Browse everything in vape coils. Whatever you install, prime it before firing — our guide on how to prime a coil takes two minutes to read and saves you the cost of a ruined coil.
How to Fill a Vape Tank
If this is your first tank, the sequence matters more than it looks:
- Install and prime the coil. Drip e-liquid directly into the cotton ports until they’re visibly saturated, then screw the coil into the tank base.
- Open the top cap. Nearly every modern tank is top-fill — slide or twist the top section to expose the fill port. Never pour liquid down the center chimney; that’s the airflow path and it leads straight to a flooded coil.
- Fill along the glass wall, leaving a small air gap at the top. That pocket of air is what maintains the pressure balance that keeps the tank from leaking.
- Close it and wait 10 minutes. The cotton needs time to absorb liquid fully. Firing a dry coil is the fastest way to a burnt taste you can’t reverse.
Cleaning, Leaking, and Other Common Problems
How to clean a vape tank
Disassemble fully — glass, base, top cap, drip tip, and O-rings. Rinse each part in warm (not hot) water, scrub gently with a soft brush if there’s residue, and let everything air-dry completely on a paper towel before reassembly. Never wash the coil; it can’t be cleaned and any water trapped in the cotton will ruin the next fill. Clean between flavor changes, or every couple of weeks otherwise.
Why is my tank leaking?
Usually one of four things: a coil that isn’t screwed in fully, a worn or misseated O-ring, an overfilled tank with no air gap, or a chimney flood from inhaling too hard. Check the O-rings first — they’re the cheapest thing to fix and the most likely culprit on a tank that’s a few months old. Leaking from the bottom airflow specifically points to a loose coil or a cracked glass seal.
Why is my vape juice turning dark in the tank?
This is normal and mostly harmless. Nicotine oxidizes on contact with air, heat, and light, which darkens the liquid — the same reaction that turns a sliced apple brown. Sweetened and tobacco-heavy juices darken fastest because their sugars caramelize on the coil. Darkening doesn’t mean the juice has spoiled, though it does signal that your coil is gunking up and flavor will fade soon. If it darkens within hours rather than days, your wattage is likely too high for the coil.
My tank is stuck and won’t unscrew
Sticky e-liquid residue in the threads is almost always the cause. Run the joint under warm water for 30 seconds to soften it, dry your hands, and use a rubber glove or silicone grip for leverage. Don’t use pliers — you’ll deform the threads and destroy the tank.
For popping and spitting during use, see our guide on why vapes pop and crackle.
Tank Setup vs. Pods vs. Disposables
Tanks give you the lowest cost per ml, the best flavor, and full control over airflow and wattage — at the price of maintenance, size, and a real learning curve. If that sounds like more than you want to manage:
- Pod kits are the middle ground: refillable, pocketable, low-maintenance, and built for nicotine salts.
- Disposable vapes require nothing at all — no filling, no coils, no cleaning.

Vape Tank FAQs
How often should I change the coil, not the tank?
Coils are consumable; tanks last years. Expect 1–2 weeks per coil on a sweetened juice, longer on a clean fruit or menthol. Replace when flavor drops off or you taste anything scorched — a good tank with a dead coil performs worse than a cheap tank with a fresh one.
Can I use nic salts in a sub-ohm tank?
No. A 50mg salt through a 0.15Ω coil at 60W delivers an enormous nicotine dose per puff and tastes harsh enough that most people put it down after one hit. Sub-ohm tanks take 3mg or 6mg freebase juice. Save salts for pod devices.
Are tanks universal across mods?
Mostly. The 510 threaded connection is an industry standard, so nearly any tank fits nearly any mod. Watch the diameter instead — a 25mm tank on a 22mm mod overhangs and looks off, though it functions fine.
How much e-liquid does a tank hold?
Standard glass runs 2–4ml; bubble glass pushes 5–8ml. Federal TPD-style capacity limits don’t apply in the US the way they do in the UK and EU, so most US-market tanks ship with the larger bubble glass in the box.
Why does my new tank taste like nothing?
Almost always an under-primed coil or insufficient soak time. Prime it, fill it, then wait a full 10 minutes before the first pull. If flavor is still flat after that, your wattage is likely below the coil’s rated range — check the number printed on the coil itself.
