Nicotine Pouches: Smoke-Free, Spit-Free, Discreet
A nicotine pouch is a small white pad you tuck between your lip and gum. It contains nicotine, flavoring, plant fibers, and sweeteners — but no tobacco leaf, which is what separates it from traditional dip or snus. Nothing burns, nothing vaporizes, and there’s nothing to spit. That’s why pouches have become the default option for offices, flights, gyms, and anywhere vaping isn’t practical.
Everything here is tobacco-free and ships from our US warehouse. If you’re weighing pouches against other formats, our guides on nicotine pouches vs. vaping and nicotine gum vs. vaping lay out the tradeoffs honestly.
Oral Nicotine In Stock
- JOOYOO Nicotine Pouches 6mg — a moderate strength that suits most people coming from a half-pack-a-day habit or from disposable vapes. Tobacco-free, spit-free, and low-profile enough to keep in for 30–45 minutes without drawing attention. More at our JOOYOO brand page.
- Slapple Nicotine Gum — in Watermelon, Pineapple, and Sour Apple. Gum works differently from a pouch: you chew until you feel a tingle, then park it against your cheek. The nicotine curve is a little slower and easier to control, which makes it a good starting point if pouches feel too intense. See the Slapple range, and our nicotine gum review for how the category compares.
How to Use a Nicotine Pouch
- Place it. Tuck the pouch between your upper lip and gum, off to one side. Most people find the upper lip more comfortable than the lower.
- Leave it alone. Don’t chew it or move it around. A slight tingle or burn in the first minute or two is normal and fades as your gums adapt.
- Wait. Nicotine absorbs through the gum tissue over 20–40 minutes. There’s nothing to spit — swallow saliva normally.
- Remove and dispose. Take it out after 30–60 minutes, once the flavor and tingle have faded. Bin it; never flush it.
New users almost always leave the first few pouches in too long. Start with 15–20 minutes and work up.
Choosing Your Strength
Pouch strength is listed in milligrams of nicotine per pouch, and the number means something quite different from the mg on an e-liquid bottle — you’re absorbing most of what’s in a single pouch, not diluting it across a whole tank.
- 3–4mg — light. Good for first-timers or anyone stepping down.
- 6mg — moderate. The most common all-day strength, and where our JOOYOO pouches sit. Comparable to what most former smokers settle on.
- 9mg+ — strong. For heavy former smokers or dip users. Uncomfortable for anyone else.
If you’re currently on a 5% disposable vape, a 6mg pouch will feel roughly familiar in overall effect, though it arrives more slowly and lasts longer. For background on how nicotine actually behaves in the body, see what nicotine does to your body.
Nicotine Pouch FAQs
What is a nicotine pouch?
A sealed pad of white plant fiber containing nicotine, flavoring, sweeteners, and pH adjusters — but no tobacco leaf. You place it under your lip and the nicotine absorbs through the gum tissue. Unlike snus or dip, there’s no plant material to spit and no combustion involved at any stage.
What happens if you swallow a nicotine pouch?
Swallowing one whole is unpleasant but rarely serious for an adult. Stomach acid degrades nicotine poorly and absorption from the gut is inefficient, so the main effects are nausea, stomach upset, hiccups, and possibly vomiting. Drink water and let it pass. Swallowing the saliva while a pouch is in your mouth is different — that’s completely normal and unavoidable, though it can cause mild hiccups or queasiness early on. Our guide on swallowing pouch saliva covers this in detail. If a child or pet swallows one, contact Poison Control immediately — the dose is significant relative to body weight.
How long does a nicotine pouch last?
Most people keep one in for 30 to 60 minutes. Nicotine release peaks in the first 10–20 minutes and tapers off after that; past an hour you’re mostly holding a flavorless pad. Beginners should start closer to 15 minutes. See how long nicotine pouches last for a fuller breakdown.
What strength nicotine pouch should I use?
Start lower than you think. 3–4mg for light or occasional nicotine use, 6mg for most former smokers, 9mg+ only if you’re coming off heavy dip or more than a pack a day. Dizziness, nausea, sweating, or a racing heart mean the strength is too high — remove it and drop down a tier.
How many mg of nicotine is in a dip pouch versus a nicotine pouch?
Traditional dip pouches vary widely, often falling in the 10–15mg range per pouch, with lower absorption efficiency because of how the tobacco is packed. Tobacco-free nicotine pouches are dosed more precisely and typically run 3–12mg. The delivered dose is more predictable, which is one of the main practical advantages of the format.
Are nicotine pouches safe?
They aren’t a health product, and no honest retailer will tell you otherwise. Nicotine is addictive, raises heart rate and blood pressure, and shouldn’t be used by anyone under 21, pregnant, breastfeeding, or with cardiovascular conditions. What pouches do eliminate is combustion and inhalation — no smoke, no tar, no lung exposure. Common side effects are gum irritation, mouth sores, and receding gums at the placement site; rotating sides helps. Our article on nicotine pouches and oral cancer risk covers the current evidence.
Do nicotine pouches stain your teeth?
Far less than smoking or dipping, since there’s no tobacco and no tar. Some pouches contain colorants or acidic flavorings that can contribute over time, and gum recession at the placement site is a more realistic concern than staining. If you’re dealing with existing discoloration, see removing tobacco stains from teeth.
Pouches or vaping — which should I pick?
Pouches are more discreet, produce no vapor or smell, and work where vaping isn’t allowed. Vaping delivers nicotine faster and offers a much broader flavor range. Plenty of people use both: a pod kit at home, pouches during the workday. Read our full comparison before deciding.
Can I fly with nicotine pouches?
Yes — pouches and gum go in carry-on or checked baggage with no restrictions, and unlike vapes they can be used during a flight without breaking any rules. Vape devices are a different story; see taking a vape on a plane.
Warning: These products contain nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical. For adults 21+ only.
